What is Encryption?

Unseen Agent -

"Encryption is a fancy way of saying secret code. Encryption means scrambling data into a secret code that cannot be decoded except by you. Encryption is a way for you to secure your files and emails from unintended party. Your files get translated into a scrambled code – a random collection of numbers and letters - that makes no sense to anyone who sees it. To encrypt a file, you "lock" it with a key, represented by a PGP passphrase. To encrypt a message, you lock it with a key pair using your PGP Email passphrase. It can only be opened by the intended recipient, using his or her own PGP Email passphrase."
